LHDP 3x18

(If you want to watch the episode without downloading it, the link is at the end of the post)

Montoya apologizes for calling in the crew into the briefing room at night (presumably after the Paco-Lucas race) but he has to update them on Agent Escobar and the police corruption investigation. Silvia talks about planted / faked evidence. while DL talks about 375 million euros stolen. Curtis tries to convert it to pesetas.

Photobucket
Silvia is still wearing the same outfit - and WHY is she holding her coat? Don't they have cloak closets at this comisaria? Is she hiding her PepsiU belt buckle?
Photobucket
Silvia comes into Cachis with Ruth, who is asking her when she's going to tell Montoya that he's going to be a baby-daddy.
Photobucket
Silvia basically tells her to shut up and that if she finds out that Montoya has been informed, she'll know where it came from. And then she asks Ruth if she's otherwise okay.
Photobucket
Lola has the brilliant idea to form the Los Cachis girl band to perform at Rita's wedding. When Sara and Silvia look around to see who the members are, Lola excitedly informs them that they are.
Photobucket

Rita comes in and Lola informs her that Los Cachis is holding its debut performance at her wedding. Then they call Ruth to join them. Aitor volunteers to play the keyboard.
Photobucket
They all go upstairs to Lola's place to practice. They sound really bad. Unlike clueless American Idol wannabes, however, they are at least aware of how bad they are.
Photobucket
Photobucket
They all sit down to discuss strategy: who should be the soloist, who has singing experience, etc. Aitor kinda wants Sara to be the soloist.
Photobucket
Then Silvia bursts out crying. Then starts laughing and says that she is so happy. Everyone blames her hormones and waits it out until she's calmed down.
Photobucket
Photobucket
They resume singing. If you look closely, Silvia has her head down: you can tell that Marian was trying so hard to contain her giggles. OUTTAKE moment!
Photobucket
Lola is now the soloist with Ruth and Silvia as her backup singers. They sound a teeny tiny bit better, but not much. Sara sits this one out because she's being bratty and mopey in the kitchen.
Photobucket
They take a break. Lola thinks they sound better but Silvia and Ruth both agree that they are still bad. Lola goes to talk some sense into her brat, and tells her that she better get in there because her aunt is in danger of moving in on Aitor. (Silvia is in the living room by the keyboard and Aitor is showing her something.)
Photobucket
They start singing again, still trying to find the right key, but they're all tired and are now plopped on the couch. At one point, when it's supposed to be an instrumental solo, Silvia keeps singing offkey. Then cries when she was told.
Photobucket
Just when they are ready to call it a day, bi-polar Silvia jumps up and says they should keep on practicing until they get it right. They do sound better afterwards. You can download the song here. One of the backup singers on the track was really the actress who played Ruth, and she's got a really nice voice.
Photobucket
Back at the comisaria, Silvia, Montoya, DL, Paco and Mariano are watching a video of a masked man with distorted voice talking about corruption in the comisaria. They reach the conclusion that the person in the video is one of them. But Silvia doesn't understand why someone would go through all the trouble when they know that Quique is not guilty. She then says that she can send the audio to Central and they have a forensic tool to filter out the noise and adjust the soundwaves to remove any distortion. If it's an inside job, they'll find out who it is in 4 to 5 hours. Paco & Mariano apprehensively glance at each other.
Photobucket
Back story: Quique and Curtis are planning a bachelor's party for Pove and Mariano sees a picture Quique in a private plane. He assumes that he is part of the Uriarte corruption racket because where else would he get money? So he and Paco decided to shoot a video of him in disguise to rat out Quique.

"you can tell that Marian was trying so hard to contain her giggles"

I see this in couple of Pepa&Silvia scenes, I wonder if they really are all that good actors or it's just a montage that helps them...

My Spanish is so poor that I need to watch these vids at least 3 times and read Dr.Piper's notes along with it to get what they are saying. I love Silvia's rolling r when she speaks. I am not a fashionista but I hate the blouse or whatever you call it she's wearing. But I do know who the guy with the mask is: Eeyore!

I got a kick out of this episode!! Man, the singing was bad and I have to give to them for not laughing out loud. If I was them I wouldn't be able to stop laughing, hench why I'm not an actor.

I was quite surprise with the nudity during Pove's bachelor party. Yes, there was some during Pepa's friends bachelorette but this was like conutious!! We would have never saw this on regular American television unless it was HBO or Showtime LOL

My theory is that silvia is using the coat to hide her belt because the university bookstore's stock is low and silvia can't promote a belt before its time. They never expected this much interest...
And what is it with the painted nails? I don't think she ever had colored nails in the pepa era. who needed red painted nails if your novia was pepa?! the hands were hot enough without polish.
hello!

University bookstore indeed! I noticed the red polished fingers too, and I thought: "Pussy red shade" (Yes, there really is one!) My Grad Assistant Malbeca will see to it that the bookstore is stocked with both PepSiU belt buckles and PepSiU clear nail polish.

And Pepa's fingers are what we have called "Pianist fingers"... long and smooth, for playing... the piano. ;)

i agree with Malbeca's ugly blouse comment- that's all I could think when I was trying to look at how beautiful MA is. It looks kind of like a kimono. i like what she was wearing in the first couple of pics because it makes her red hair stand out.

I decided to come out...I am Anonymous no more.

Dare I ask the professor a question that deals with a later episode? Will I be ruining it for the rest of the class?
Here it goes: What is Ruth's story? Who or what did she really turn about to be? Was it ever explained?
This doesn't count as an extra credit question, does it?

Dr. Pied Piper said...

Hey Booker, welcome to PepsiU. Ruth will only be around until the end of this season / year 3. Her storyline is one of those LHDP twists.

She's pretty hot though, isn't she? He boyfriend in real life is Jesus Olmedo who plays Carlos in Hospital Central.

Extra credit question? I think you got it backwards: extra credit for answers is our policy but not for questions.

Booker said...

Yes, and here are the six degrees of silvia. Jesus Olmedo played Marian's boyfriend and one day husband in Essence of Power and her boyfriend in that alien sitcom...all those connections!

I agree silvias shirt is hideous, but this woman could wear a paper sack and be just plain gorgeous. She was obviously a little flaky in the first seasons of this show, which i havent watched yet. piper, it helps to have these recaps to get a little peak at the characters and how they developed. i think pepa made silvias character better in many ways. thanks piper for showing me the previous episodes. someday i hope to be able to watch them with subtitles.

Welcome, PepSiAddict! Glad you found your way here. Please see my Grad Assistant Malbeca for your welcome package. Sorry I haven't gotten around to getting a LJ account so I haven't read your fanfic yet. I'm sure it's brilliant.

Booker, I learned that you've been offered a scholarship. Just be cognizant of the fact that Malbeca is easily bribed so please don't share your exam papers with her. Also, Worcester is WAY more than 45 minutes to Boston!!! More like 2 hours on the Pike, more with Massachusetts traffic! But anything west of 128 is foreign land to me. At least you have the basketball hall of fame.

I've been unexpectedly busy but hopefully I'll post the new episode soon. I'm also going to make a clip of all of MA's phoned-in scenes in Un Poco de Chocolate.

Dr Piper, you have got worcester confused with springfield...we are in central Mass, not western Mass. Get out your compass and do the hokey pokey.
I am thrilled you are tackling Un Poco de Chocolate. What is that about?!! But when you work on it, could you linger over the trolley scene...um the leg moment...the finest moment in a very odd film. I take that back, the few seconds of Marian under the sheet..another classic.
